I'd like help please to establish this mans unit.

Gnr Arthur Midgley, Royal Field Artillery 3141 and 796213

Born November 1893 and from Bradford, probably enlisted Bradford too.

Pip, Squeak and Wilfred. Volunteered, his unit is known to have been in North Shields on 18th July 1915.

His relative says he served on the Somme and Ypres and then went to Italy.

Any suggestions very welcome. Thanks, Tim

His number falls in the range for Territorial Units namely the 49th or 62nd Divisional Ammunition Column ie 1st or 2nd West Riding Brigades.

Do also remember that even though he might have originally enlisted in the West Riding DAC, by the time he was re-numbered in 1917 he may well have transferred to another DAC or RFA Brigade. Which would explain his Italy service, as neither of the West Riding Divisions served there.

Brigades in Italy with War Diaries at the NA are :

WO 95/4205 72 Brigade Royal Field Artillery 1917 Dec. 1918 Mar.

WO 95/4205 76 Brigade Royal Field Artillery 1917 Dec. 1918 Mar.

WO 95/4205 175 Brigade Royal Field Artillery 1917 Dec. - 1918 Mar.

All were army brigades

CLXXV (175) New armies 34th Division from formation in early 1915 to 26 January 1917, when transferred as an Army Brigade. On 21 November 1917, moved to Italy, and returned to Western Front 30 Mar - 5 April 1918. (LLT)
