From this meagre information I'm trying to find out where my Grandfather served.

I know nothing further about his service apart from the fact that other family members "think" he was a machine gunner. The only other piece of (probably irrelevant) information I have, is that he was gassed which resulted in the loss of a lung and kidney.

Presumably the first step is to establish his Btn., unfortunately, although it sounds pathetic, I have absolutely no idea how to go about this so I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

See my reply to your other thread regarding French. You will need to find out when he joined the Battalion in order to discover where he fought.

It is possible that he was a Lewis gunner but it will be difficult to ascertain that. The only chance would be to find something in his service record
