Battery Bremen.

This was the battery nearest to the Duch border.

Constructed in 1916, 4 x 10,5 cm.

Here the battery is seen after the Germans evacuated the Belgian coast

The 4 gun emplacements were connected by a trench running behind the gun positions

Battery Bremen

The Germans loved to decorate their coastal batteries with sea mines washed ashore

Wouter,

The second picture of the barracks is almost certainly at Battery Bremen, or in the near surroundings at the Schuetzennest.

Very nice Cnock,

do you have any ideas where the guns come from?

Nolf, they came from Belgian fortresses. The Germans captured large numbers in their invasion of Belgium. Some were modified as infantry guns and some were later used to arm the A7V tanks.

Nolf,

As I stated in my post nr.9, these are Belgian fortress guns.

The German Naval Division captured several after the fall of Antwerpen and the fortresses around the city.

For Wouter,

Part of British military map, Ordnance Survey Office, Southampton 1912.

Battery Bremen was situated where the coastline starts to curve inside (Zwin estuary)

Cnock
