Guest craig lewis Posted 2 February , 2006 Share Posted 2 February , 2006 Hi all, firstly I posted my first message yesterday about HMT Othonna(my great grandfather was one of the men killed on it in 1917) and was gobsmacked with the detail of replies I had, so here goes my second question. I have now found some information about medals awarded to my great grandfather, the problem is that the paperwork I have has abbreviations for the medals and I want to know what these abbreviations mean. They are as follow:- St. V. B. Am I correct in assuming that these are Star, Victory and British War medals? Also where it say "how disposed of" it says:- Ww What does this mean? Is it War widow? Because I assume that the medals would have been awarded posthumously. Under other "remarks" it says:- I.C.666/1917 Does this also mean anything in particular? Thanks in advance to everyone and I apologise for my ignorance but I'm finding my whole research on WW1 fascinating. Cheers Craig
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 2 February , 2006 Share Posted 2 February , 2006 With respect to the Medals the abbreviations are as you suspect.

John Morcombe Posted 8 February , 2006 Share Posted 8 February , 2006 Under other "remarks" it says:- I.C.666/1917 Does this also mean anything in particular? I.C. = Indent Casualty. 666 would be his register number entry in the Inspector of Seaman's Wills. I.C.666/1917 would be found at the top of his final balance of payments form sent to his Nok (residue of pay & balance of accounts).
