frans Posted 2 February , 2006 Share Posted 2 February , 2006 I have been approached to try and find out where this soldier came from. What I do know is that he was stationned in the Yper Sailient 1917. This soldier survived the war what we are trying to find out if there are any living decendants of this soldier. Is there any way to find out through registers where this man came from in England. Kind regards, Frans

The National Archives has 4 Joseph Townleys in service:- Medal card of Townley, Joseph Corps: Liverpool Regiment Regiment No: 50829 Rank: Private... Medal card of Townley, Joseph Swinburn Corps: Royal Army Medical Corps Rank: Lieutenant... Medal card of Townley, Joseph Corps: Army Veterinary Corps Regiment No: SE/22665 Rank: Corporal Medal card of Townley, Joseph Corps: Royal Lancaster Regiment Regiment No: 2935 240951 Rank: Private Medal card of Townley, Joseph Corps: Army Service Corps Regiment No: T4/162096 Rank: Driver Could do with a bit more to go on frans. Not sure if any of the above is any help. Also looking at the 1901 census returns Townley seems to be a name associated with Lancashire. This is just a bit of a guess, but without a bit more to go on its a hard job. All the best James
frans Posted 2 February , 2006 Author Share Posted 2 February , 2006 Hi James, This is the man, the badge to me when I enlarged it looks a bit like the blue peter badge. The only info I have is that he met this Belgian lady who lived at Brandhoek but they could have been evacuated to around the Poperinge area. He left the area in 1917 but the belgian lady was evacuated to France with the german spring offensive. That is about it James. Thank you for your trouble, Frans
