The late Lieutenant Howard was 22 years of age, and belonged to the Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He met with his death instantaneously while leading his men "over the top", on the 24th April, being hit by a shell. The deceased officer had been on active service in France for six months, and was home on leave a short time ago. His commanding officer writing to his parents said "Your son was doing well and I always thought he would do. We have lost a very promising officer". Before joining the Army Lieut.
