hairy Posted 28 January , 2006 Share Posted 28 January , 2006 Hi all I have recently downloaded my grandfathers Royal Navy record which has an entry which states he was at Vivid II, which I believe is the barracks at Davenport, and Liffey in brackets. Can anyone tell me why Liffey is in brackets?
RNCVR Posted 28 January , 2006 Share Posted 28 January , 2006 Assuming Great war period - HMS Liffey was a Destroyer of 1904, that survived the war & was sold in 1919. Normally the Base or Depot ship is shown first & the tender ship that is attached to that depot ship is shown in brackets. Bryan
kin47 Posted 28 January , 2006 Share Posted 28 January , 2006 Hello For information, VIVID II was the Devonport Accounting Base. This was for 1914 and 1915 only when it was absorbed back into VIVID. All best don
alanh Posted 29 January , 2006 Share Posted 29 January , 2006 Don That is strange, because in my wife's grandfathers naval record ( AB David A Bidmead) He is recorded as serving in Vivid II from December 1926 -Jan 1927 and then being transferred to Vivid I Alan
kin47 Posted 29 January , 2006 Share Posted 29 January , 2006 Hello Alan Thanks for the information. VIVID became DRAKE on 1 January 1934. For VIVID II, my source of information was Ben Warlow's SHORE ESTABLISHMENTS OF THE ROYAL NAVY. I will attempt to contact Ben and bounce this information off his records.
