Vivid II (Liffey)

Hi all

I have recently downloaded my grandfathers Royal Navy record which has an entry which states he was at Vivid II, which I believe is the barracks at Davenport, and Liffey in brackets. Can anyone tell me why Liffey is in brackets?

Assuming Great war period - HMS Liffey was a Destroyer of 1904, that survived the war & was sold in 1919.

Normally the Base or Depot ship is shown first & the tender ship that is attached to that depot ship is shown in brackets.

Hello

For information, VIVID II was the Devonport Accounting Base. This was for 1914 and 1915 only when it was absorbed back into VIVID.

That is strange, because in my wife's grandfathers naval record ( AB David A Bidmead) He is recorded as serving in Vivid II from December 1926 -Jan 1927 and then being transferred to Vivid I

Hello Alan

Thanks for the information.

VIVID became DRAKE on 1 January 1934.

For VIVID II, my source of information was Ben Warlow's SHORE ESTABLISHMENTS OF THE ROYAL NAVY. I will attempt to contact Ben and bounce this information off his records.

All best
