Remembered Today:

Casual screen

Recommended Posts

Pals,

I have extracts from the service file of an officer killed on one of the beaches at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915.

This says that he was killed while "hauling up a casual screen (signal for stop firing) to stop the ships from shooting."

I've never heard of a casual screen before. Anyone know exactly what it was?

Regards,

Philip
