Guest jadeguy Posted 27 January , 2006 Share Posted 27 January , 2006 I am trying to trace my great grandfathers role in The Great War Yesterday I managed to find a MIC, which seems to be a likely candidate. Am I right in believing that his arrival - theatre of war - 14-09-1915 would mean that he was part of K3 and therefore belonged to one of the following divisions? 21st Division 22nd Division 23rd Division 24th Division 25th Division 26th Division It says elsewhere on this site (referring to 21st Division) that: "A Division of K3, the units were assembled around Tring during September 1914. The Division crossed to France 2nd-13th September 1915. " Would this be a likely candidate? Can anything be deduced from the service numbers? Gunner 87350 with Royal Field Artillery Gunner 366669 with Royal Engineers Gunner 10843 with Royal Garrison Artillery Gunner 594485 with Labour Corps Gunner 53436 with Gloucester Regiment Any help, greatly appreciated I also know he was in Colchester for a period, if that is any help? Gunner Bailey Posted 27 January , 2006 Share Posted 27 January , 2006 One of my grandfathers was in the 21st Division and his medal card shows he arrived in France on the 12th September 1915. He was in the Royal Engineers 126th Field Company, but his number is 5 digit number, so I doubt he joined at the same time. Gunner Bailey
Vista52 Posted 31 January , 2006 Share Posted 31 January , 2006 My g'father was also in the RFA and I only have his MIC. I went to Kew in 2004 and used the website "From the Western Front to Salonika" as a guide. I found the book "Embarkation dates of Units going Overseas 1914-1918" in WO379/16. In my case the MIC gave me an overseas date of 13/7/1915 which matched the embarkation date of the 78th & 80th Brigades, RFA (both in the 17th Div). Hope that helps Paul Spooner
