mmm45 Posted 21 January , 2006 Share Posted 21 January , 2006 Hi Further to my last post is it possible to find out a soldiers date of enlistment without his records?if the soldier joined up with the sevice number 1954 in the West Riding Regiment he probably joined the Cleckheaton Company as he lived 5 min from the drill hall.Would this put his date of enlistment as around august 1914. Any help much appreciated. Thanks.
Tony Lund Posted 25 January , 2006 Share Posted 25 January , 2006 If you can find the newspaper obituary, that might give a date of enlistment. No guarantee of course. Tony.
bigronhartley Posted 25 January , 2006 Share Posted 25 January , 2006 Hello mmm45 The soldier with service number 1954 in the West Riding Regiment was George Blamires, probably enlisted in the Cleckheaton Company around August 1914 (although he could have been a pre-war Territorial). He was one of the original B Coy which went to France in April 1915. He later served with the Durham Light Infantry No. 250744. Hope this helps Regards, Ron
