Auimfo Posted 21 January , 2006 Share Posted 21 January , 2006 Has anyone any info about 199650 Gunner Albert Victor Billing who served with the Royal Field Artillery. A friend has asked me to find out what I can. We believe he was born in about 1898 at Benson or Bensington, Oxfordshire. Apparantly he served in both WW1 and WW2 but it is unknown whether he was regular or simply joined for both conflicts. I've located the MIC reference and given it to my friend but if someone could confirm whether his service records still exist I would be very grateful. My friend has access to a photo of him (which I don't have yet) and it has the reference R.8. alongside his name. Does this mean anything to anyone? Thanks, Tim L. Auimfo Posted 21 January , 2006 Author Share Posted 21 January , 2006 Further to this, I've just found out he served with the Australian 51st Garrison Battalion guarding POW's during WW2. He must have emigrated between the wars. Tim L.

Auimfo Posted 21 January , 2006 Author Share Posted 21 January , 2006 Thanks John, Yes I did find that info from the Australian Records - also managed to find a photo on the Aust War Memorial site. Steve, You saved me the trouble. I've been at work and hadn't had time to check the census records. Just got home and you've done it for me. Much appreciated. All I need to find out now is his British WW1 Service Records. Tim L.
