Raster Scanning Posted 19 January , 2006 Share Posted 19 January , 2006 I have the Army Field Message Book containing notes kept by the above man when he was undergoing officer training in May 1917. The training was being carried out at 1st Cadet Wing RFC Denham Camp Bucks. He was killed on the 21st of September the same year and is commemorated on the Arras Flying Services Memorial. Can anyone give me any further information on this mans life and death. Many thanks John.
Dolphin Posted 19 January , 2006 Share Posted 19 January , 2006 John 2Lt Thomas William McLean of No 20 Sqn RFC, was flying as observer in Bristol F.2b A7234, flown by Lt Charles Halkett Carson Woods (formerly Canadian Army Service Corps) on an Offensive Patrol, when they were shot down and killed over Wervicq-Menin on 21 September 1917. They had left Sainte-Marie-Cappel aerodrome at 1636. A victory was credited to Leutnant Fritz Kiekhäfer of Jasta 29; it was the 2nd of his eventual 8 before he died of wounds on 7 June 1918. I hope this helps. Gareth
