Andrew Hesketh Posted 16 January , 2006 Share Posted 16 January , 2006 Sorry, can't tell you which company, but my Great Uncle died on the same day in the same action and in the same battalion, so if you click on 'Herbert Burman' in my signature you can read an account that may help you understand the events surrounding your man's death. Stuart Brown Posted 17 January , 2006 Share Posted 17 January , 2006 "Also reported missing and believed killed is 2Lt J Harwood C Fletcher in his 30th year and married, he was in business with an uncle at Mansfield prior to the outbreak of war. Having formerly held a commission , he volunteered for service about six months ago and had only been on active service for five weeks." A separate paragraph of the same date carries the above duplicate information but also includes "was in business with his Uncle Mr Harwood Cash of Farnsfield Hall....." which ties in with Steve's research above. 14th July 1916 Derby Mercury.
