Guest Richard C Posted 16 January , 2006 Share Posted 16 January , 2006 I am reseaching my grandfather's service in WWI ahving inherited his medals from my mother. I have drawn a blank with MOD records as his were among those destroyed. The MIC is unremarkable showing only full name, Corps, rank and Regtl No and recording the award of the Victory and British medals with roll and page number. The remarks, theatre of war and date of entry are blank. I believe that the T4 prefix to the regimental number suggests that he served in a horse transport company with the 4th "New Army". My question is where can I go now to find out more? Ideally I would like to identify his unit and where he served. As I understand it a trip the NA to examine the page of the Medals Rolls is unlikely to have any entries relating to any ASC unit he may have served with. There is no family information other than pssible service in the Ypres Salient.
Sparky53 Posted 16 January , 2006 Share Posted 16 January , 2006 My grandfather also served with ASC Number T4/109775 Ditto his Medal Index Card showed my nothing but after a great deal of head scratching I got his marriage certificate Bachelor - Profession Soldier - 208 Company Army Service Corps BEF. From this I discovered he went to Salonika 12 Auxiliary Horse Transport Company (208 Company ASC) formerly 22 Reserve Park Good luck Jane
