Tonym Posted 14 January , 2006 Share Posted 14 January , 2006 Having posted a request on the 'Hospitals in the United Kingdom' site with no response perhaps somebody who does not frequent that site might know the answer. I am researching a lady who is recorded by the BRC as having worked as a Ward-maid at the Grange, Southport sometime prior to 1918. Would anybody, particularly in the Southport area, have any information on The Grange, Southport? There is no record held by The Wellcome Hospital Database so I have to assume that this was a War Emergency Hospital. Can anybody assist please? BeppoSapone Posted 14 January , 2006 Share Posted 14 January , 2006 Yes, I would be interested in knowing more about it as well. Meanwhile, this link will take you to a pic of an ambulance unloading wounded soldiers at this hospital in WW1. http://www.mersey-gateway.org/server.php?show=ConGallery.

I have sent an enquiry to Ormskirk Library, who apparantly hold the archives for Southport. If I get anything I will let you know. Tony

This could be a red herring but there is a Grange Surgery. It could be the building, or something later built on the same site? The Grange Surgery 41 York Road, Birkdale, Southport, PR8 2AD. There is also passing mention of the Grange in this article: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~s...ton/dadswar.htm There is also a Southport Forum. You might try a question there, probably in the "Southport Past" section. http://www.southportpast.com/ Hope this helps
Tonym Posted 15 January , 2006 Author Share Posted 15 January , 2006 Thanks Beppo Well obviously something existed there. I read most of the diary but it is late so have saved it. I will certainly drop a line to the Grange Surgery to see if they have any answers. will let you know the results Cheers Tony
