Remembered Today:

Medical term PWO - what does it mean?

I'm transcribing a casualty book for The Norfolk Regiment. It lists men that required hospital treatment for one reason or another, sickness or wounds. There are lots of acronyms used but PWO seems to relate to the limbs and is recorded in different levels of severity, but does anybody knows what it stands for?

I can't yet come up with a "PWO" There was/still is a term PUO which stands for Pyrexia of Uncertain/unknown origin. This is fever ? cause and was quite common in most if not all theatres of operation in the Great War. PWO could perhaps be pyrexia without origin, but it is not the commonly accepted term and doesn't fit with limbs, so I suspect I'm wrong.

If you can scan or copy a few entries, I might click as to what it is. You can send them through via "personal message" if you click on PM below my details in box on left of this (where it has ON Card PM)

Regards

Andrew
