Nathan Greenfield Posted 13 January , 2006 Share Posted 13 January , 2006 On the morning of 23 April 1915, two re-supply columns were sent to Major Kirkpatrick's position between St Julien and Kitcherner's Woods. The carried crates loaded with rounds for the Canadians' Ross Rifles. Does anyone know how large and heavy the crates would have been? Cheers, Nathan
Guest Posted 13 January , 2006 Share Posted 13 January , 2006 If they were standard .303 rounds, then they would have been standard boxes of (from memory) about 80lb with two rope handles. Ammunition was not supplied in large packing crates because of the handling problems which would result.
