bobpike Posted 13 January , 2006 Share Posted 13 January , 2006 Chatta Singh age 29 Sepoy in 9th Bhopal Infantry. On 13th January 1916 during Battle of the Wadi Mesopotamia, he left cover to go to the assistance of his wounded commanding officer who was lying out in the open; he bound up the wounds and then Chatta Singh dug cover with his entenching tool, being exposed to very heavy fire. Chatta Singh stayed with his wounded officer, shielding him on the exposed side for 5 hours until nightfall. Under the cover of darkness Chatta Singh went back for assistance, and the officer was brought back to safety.Later achieved rank of Havildar.Born Cawnpore India 1886Died Tilsara kanpur India 29/3/1961Cremated Tilsara VillageVC not publicly held.
