Andrew Hesketh Posted 9 January , 2006 Share Posted 9 January , 2006 Welcome to the forum. There are a number of Sherwood 'fans' on board with a good track record of helping with such queries (in fact far better than the regimental museum to be honest!). I'll get you started with some information below, which the museum probably gave you. I have the 2nd battalion history and will check for the date a little later. George Mee, 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters, born Aldershot, Hants, enlisted Chilwell, Notts, resident of Nottingham, killed in action. Andrew Hesketh Posted 9 January , 2006 Share Posted 9 January , 2006 If he was a Forester then Francis must be Private 8472: Medal card here - http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...1&resultcount=1 And if we play the same assumption there are three possible Joseph's as listed here - http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...=1&mediaarray=* The one numbered 22222 was killed whilst later serving with the Highland Light Infantry so you can rule him out. Hi Andrew,George, francis, and Joseph were definitely Foresters afourth brother Charles Norris Mee signed on with the Canadian army in Newmarket Ontario{what he was doing in Canada no one seems to know] he died at Mount Sorrel a fe months earlier. On checking it was Francis who was wounded and taken prisoner.
