Desmond7 Posted 9 January , 2006 Share Posted 9 January , 2006 OK. All systems go for July this year ... I fly into Paris Charles de Gaulle ... anyone give me the 'idiots guide' to getting to the Somme region via train? Is there a northward bound rail link at the airport? Realise most will travel to this region via car but for me this is the best option. Any hints tips etc. I have sent several e-mails to various tourism sites this evening, but a bit of first hand advice would be very heloful. Tom Morgan Posted 9 January , 2006 Share Posted 9 January , 2006 Hi Des - I don't have a specific answer to your question about C de G to Amiens by train, but must say how glad I am to read that you're making the trip. Tom
Rupert Posted 9 January , 2006 Share Posted 9 January , 2006 Hi Des. Yep, there is a new, direct bus link between CDG and Amiens. Ask at the airport information desk as to where the bus terminal is located. To do it by train, get the RER to the Gare du Nord in Paris (I live just nearby). It takes about 20 minutes. Then buy a ticket to Albert, normally with a change at Amiens. Although if you're lucky, about 1 in 4 trains are direct, where you don't have to disembark at Amiens. If you take the bus option, the bus station terminus at Amiens is next to the train station, where you can then buy a ticket to Albert. The missus has just told me the train cost from Gare du Nord (in Paris) to Albert (return) is about 40 Euros. Hope this helps mate.

Jack Sheldon Posted 10 January , 2006 Share Posted 10 January , 2006 Desmond Was one of the sites www.somme-battlefields.com ? This is an excellent initiative by the Somme Tourist board. Full of information and includes some whizzo downloads. Jack
gericht 1914 Posted 10 January , 2006 Share Posted 10 January , 2006 Des. I assume it's still running (15 years since I used it), but there was a direct train (every couple of hours or so)between the Gare du Nord (I think!)in Paris and Albert if it's the 1916 battlefields you want. dave.
