Ray.

A bit untidy, but you seem to have a fairly straight forward card here.

MIC for:

Pte (Later A/Corporal) 16744 Patrick Byrne.

Of what looks to be the East Yorks Regt.

The "Code" O/1/102B in the Medal boxes (Top Right Corner) confirms his Regt.

He was entitled to the BWM (British War Medal), VM (Victory Medal) and 15 Star (1914-1915 Star).

The Codes relate the the actual medal rolls, held at the NA in Kew, and the page numbers are the actual pages within these rolls in which his entry will appear.

Theatre of War first Entered is stated as France, on 9th Sept 1915.

He was also awrded a SWB (Silver War Badge) due to wounding, sickness etc. The code for this is given along side.

The Remarks simply state "Disc". Meaning he was discharged, most likely as a result of the circumstances that led to the SWB.

Hope this Helps a little.

Mark.

Hi Mark,

That is fantastic, many thanks for that. I have two of his medals, but the Victory Medal and Silver War Badge are gone. Do you know of lost medals can be re-issued / replaced?

Kind regards

Ray

I understand that the replacement/re-issue of Great War campaign medals from 'official channels' is no longer a possibility and actually ceased in the mid-1980's.
