Any Seaforth people around? Seeking info of any action on above date to fill in some more info on a local KIA.

:) Hello,

The 1/5th {The Sutherland and Caithness Highland} Battalion, The Seaforth Highlanders T.F were in 152 Brigade of the 51st {Highland} Division. At this period the Division was fighting in and around High Wood, during the battle of the Somme.

On the 27th July, the brigade was in Mametz Valley and were heavily shelled all night. I've checked the History of the 51st Division and also a small book called the War Diary of the 5th Seaforth, but can't find out where they were on the 30th. On the first of August they releived the 153 Brigade, so it sound as if they were not holding the front line, but were in support and under heavy fire.

I have another couple of books to check, so may have an up date tomorrow.

All the best,

Stewart
