ceebee Posted 7 January , 2006 Share Posted 7 January , 2006 The image below is included in an article called The England of Charles Dickens published in the National Geographic magazine of April 1974. The photo caption describes this age-weary fellow as "The Old Contempable", a London sidewalk character. The man appears to be of an age [late 70s to 80s] that could place him in the ranks of the Old Contemptibles. I was wondering whether anyone can recall seeing this chap in their travels around London at that time and whether he was in fact on Old Contemptible down on his luck. Horace Bachelor Posted 7 January , 2006 Share Posted 7 January , 2006 Chris, Doesn't the writing on his bowler say contempary though, or are my eyes deceiving me? He more than likeley was a Great War veteran. I wonder who he was? Rich.
