welshdragon Posted 7 January , 2006 Share Posted 7 January , 2006 Hello can anyone help!! I am trying to find any more information about the above soldier who won a military medal attached to 285th siege battery RGA. This was in the London Gazette on the 12.6.1918. I have his medal index card, but have no information of the whereabouts of the 285th around the time he received his military medal. His regimental no:M2-032305 Regards, Steve
essdee Posted 7 January , 2006 Share Posted 7 January , 2006 Steve 285 Siege Battery were part of 99 HA Brigade RGA and were part of First Army artillery. At the end..ish of March they were sent into Third Army area as reinforcements. By November 99 HA Bde had been transfered back into Second Army. The Gazzete entry of June 18 is going to be some weeks, even months, after the event. The most likely period I would think is mid March whilst 99 Bde is still in First Army area. The German advance nearly broke through the British line, the fact it didn't was down to many brave acts. I may be worth having a look through local newspapers, a local boy with a MM usually gets a mention. Stuart

welshdragon Posted 7 January , 2006 Author Share Posted 7 January , 2006 Stuart Many thanks for your reply! The soldier in question is in fact from my home town of Cardiff (not related), so I'll give the local newspapers a go and hope for some mention!!
