Hi All,

Another 3rd Australian Field Ambulance man from England was Frederick Charles Spurgeon. Fred was born in Coxheath, Linton, Maidstone, Kent, and was, for a time, Gamekeeper to the Duke of Northumberland. His mother was Caroline Goad and he had a sister, Mrs Rosina Collar, of Forge House, Coxheath.

Fred was living with another sister, Mrs Waller, in rural Western Australia at the outbreak of war.

Fred Spurgeon landed with "C" Section, 3rd Field Ambulance, at dawn on April 25th. He was shot in the lower back at the Landing, and died of wounds on June 1st, 1915.

Email enquiries with Alnwick Castle went unanswered....hoping somebody on the forum might have an idea for further sources of info.

Good on you,

Grant
