Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 28 August , 2003 Share Posted 28 August , 2003 The place name 'Ern' appears in the war diaries of the 9th, 14th & 15th Battalions of the Tank Corps as a place where soldiers where trained to use the box respirator. Does anyone know here this is? Ian
Mike_H Posted 28 August , 2003 Share Posted 28 August , 2003 Ian I think that you will find that this is the village of Erin which, with its neighbouring village of Teneur, was the site of Tank Corps workshops. It is in the valley of the Ternoise about 15km north-west of St.Pol. The rail line which served the workshops still links St. Pol to Hesdin but the sidings for loading and unloading tanks have are long gone and the area of the workshops is returned to agriculture.
