Bob Bedward Posted 5 January , 2006 Share Posted 5 January , 2006 Hi - Whilst trawling through the local paper today in order to discover more information about the men on my village Roll of Duty and Honour. I came across a page dated October 10 1914 which recorded the men of the local parishes who were serving. Amongst the list for “my” village I found this strange entry. (I also found men who are not on the village roll of Duty and Honour) William Henry Elliot Volunteer Driver French Government Railways. What on earth is William doing driving a French Train in late autumn 1914 and regarding it as military service? Any ideas please. Best wishes Old Jack
