I'm trying to pin down when Lt. Louis Arbon Strange flew over the Ypres Salient on 23 April,1915.

He belonged to No. 6 Squadron. I know he took off at 5:30 a.m. and that BE2c biplane's air speed was about 85 miles per hour. So, I am short one part of the equation: Where was No. 6 Squatdron located ?

Does anybody know?

Cheers,

Nathan

6 Sqn were based at Poperinghe from 8 Mar to 24 April and then at Abeele with a detachment at Droglandt.

I believe it was about 1700 on the 22 April that he flew over the Salient just as a German plane dropped the 3 red flares starting the gas attack. (as per the book Gas the Battle for Ypres).

He flew over the lines the following morning (23 April) 'before daybreak'.

Hope this helps

Regards

John
