Guest rhysbethell Posted 4 January , 2006 Share Posted 4 January , 2006 HI, I'm writing a play about the bombardment before the Battle of the Somme from a german point of view. I wondered what the rankings were or the military hierarchy was in the trenches for the germans. if anyone can help i would be bloody happy as im no expert! spike10764 Posted 4 January , 2006 Share Posted 4 January , 2006 Search the forum using the search facility, Rhys. I'm sure this topic has arisen before and a list of sorts was produced in one of the posts. Failing that, Jack Sheldon's book The German Army on The Somme has a listing in it, IIRC. Guest rhysbethell Posted 4 January , 2006 Share Posted 4 January , 2006 I've already searched. I'll have another try, maybe reword it. Cheers

Jack Sheldon Posted 5 January , 2006 Share Posted 5 January , 2006 Rhys I devoted about 8,000 words of 'The German Army on the Somme' to a wide range of anecdotes from the bombardment. But as well as that source, if it would be helpful to you as a fellow Forum member, contact me off-forum and I'll send you a copy of my translation of the Reserve Infantry Regiment 99 (Thiepval area) Battle Log for 24 - 30 June 1916. It is over 14,000 words long and is the most comprehensive minute- by-minute account of the bombardment I have personally seen. Jack
