Pte1643 Posted 3 January , 2006 Share Posted 3 January , 2006 Hi Mark. You have a fairly straight forward card there. Private (Pte) Frederick Kent Service # 1936 5th Suffolk Regt First Entered Theatre of War "Balkans" on 10th August 1915 Was entitled to the British War Medal (BWM), Victory Medal (VM) and 1914/15 Star (15 Star) The "Codes" in the column code refer to the Actual Medal index rolls that are kept at the NA in Kew, These are NOT available online. The Page numbers refer to the actual pages within these "Rolls" into which the entries are logged. The Code shown as K/1/103 is the code for the Suffolk Regt. The remarks part simply shows that he "Died", but gives no further explanation, a search of the CWGC website may throw some further light on this. http://www.cwgc.org/cwgcinternet/casualty_...casualty=692966 Hope this helps a little. All the Best. Mark.
Blackblue Posted 4 January , 2006 Share Posted 4 January , 2006 Mark, 2b by the way was Gallipoli. The 1/5th Suffolks were part of the 56th Division which was bought out to the Dardenelles to support the Suvla landings on 6th/7th August 1915. They departed Liverpool via Aquitania on the 30th July and arrived at Mudros on the 6th August. They went ashore at A Beach Suvla on the 10th August. They attacked Kuchuk Anafarta Ova on the 12th August suffering 189 casualties including 11 officers. The attack was largely unsuccessful. You can find more in British Battalions at Gallipoli by Ray Westlake. A Beach is shown at the top here to the North of Salt Lake. http://nzsf.com/Gallipoli/mapenlarge.html Rgds Tim
