Turfy Posted 2 January , 2006 Share Posted 2 January , 2006 I've just returned from my first tour of the Somme and Ypres and it was brilliant. I want to thank everyone who offered help and advice over the last few months, that help has been invaluable. I visited the grave of my uncle, John Tunney, at Bard Cottage Cemetery and laid a wreath. It was so quiet and peaceful and a very emotional experience for me. The other highlights are too numerous to list but if pushed I'd have to say Sheffield Memorial Park, Newfoundland Memorial Park, the isolated Stump Road Cemetery at Grandcourt which, strangely, I have never been able to find in a guide book, and a lonely and deserted Tyne Cot in a blizzard was an experience I'll never forget. Thanks must go to Rob and Sue Perry for the excellent tour, accommodation and fellowship at Essex Farm Guest House in Langemark and Paul Reed for his guidebooks. It was an amazing experience for me with so many wishes fulfilled, I can't wait for the chance to go back again. Dave
