Air Mechanic Class III Charles Deller (92781) from Wandsworth in London, was serving with No 56 Kite Balloon Section, Royal Flying Corps, when he was killed on 31 December 1917. He was on board the Hired Transport Osmanieh when the ship struck a mine laid by the German Submarine UC-34 (Oblt.z.S. Horst Obermüller) off Alexandria. Forty eight RFC men, from Nos 55 and 56 Kite Balloon Sections, were included in the 199 people who lost their lives in the sinking.
