Iain Sanders Posted 30 December , 2005 Share Posted 30 December , 2005 Hi, in the process of researching my great grandfather, i've heard that on occasions army no's of men where changed when moving between regiments. Is it possible that my g.g.father's no. & rank could be different on the CWGC list to that of the MIC. Was this a common occurrence during ww1. Cheers Iain
KONDOA Posted 30 December , 2005 Share Posted 30 December , 2005 Iain Post you GGFs details as it would seem unusual to be completely different. The MIC would normally show the change of Reg. Roop
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 31 December , 2005 Share Posted 31 December , 2005 The CWGC generally only give the unit that the Soldier died with,or possibly his original unit as well, however many men moved more than once & it is only on the MiCs that all changes should be recorded, remember there may be more than one card so use as broad a search as possible to try to confirm any changes

Roop He was mentioned in the 1/5th war diary, killed on 27/4/15 at Dickebusche attached RE. The rest of the details are correct. There is a few men with the name John Sanders or J.Sanders on the MIC but none showed up with his army no. or rank. He is mentioned in the Walsall roll of honour as in the RE. Will try again, as new to this i may have made a mistake. Cheers Iain.
