paul guthrie Posted 26 August , 2003 Share Posted 26 August , 2003 After the Candian Corps took this April 9, 1917 they held it until they went into action near Amiens August 8, 1918. They were back there late that month. Who held the ridge during the interim? Thanks.
Paul Reed Posted 28 August , 2003 Share Posted 28 August , 2003 The Canadians did not hold Vimy Ridge from April 1917 until Amiens in August 1918. The Canadian Corps was in action at Fresnoy in May 1917 and Lens from June-August, and then on Hill 70 in August-September until they moved to Passchendaele. After Ypres they went back to Vimy for the winter of 1917/18, and then occupied the line south of Arras during the Kaiserschlact, then moved to Amiens for the Big Push. Many British divisions were in and out of the line around Vimy during this period - probably too many to mention here.
paul guthrie Posted 28 August , 2003 Author Share Posted 28 August , 2003 I plead senility! Sitting on my desk at work as I typed this was Slaughter In The Mud, The Canadians at Passchendaele, 1917. In a couple of hours I will ingest beer and become a lot smarter!
