Tony Lund Posted 27 December , 2005 Share Posted 27 December , 2005 We all know what A1 means, but what exactly are all the other eight categories? In the reports of Military Tribunals in newspapers from 1917 I see men who were originally medically rejected being re-examined and passed for service. The Tribunals are clearly taking a man’s category into account when hearing an appeal for exemption from service, so at the time these categories must have been important. Tony. gporta Posted 27 December , 2005 Share Posted 27 December , 2005 Tony, broadly, these were the categories: Category A: Fit for General Service abroad (able to do long marches, fight, carry heavy equipment, etc... Category B: Fit for service abroad, but not General Service (Likely to be employed in garrison duties, clerical jobs, labour units...) Category C: Fit only for Home Service Category D: Those who are not fit for service, but may become so within a period of six months. Category E: Unfit for service Gloria
