I have just seen the obituary in todays Daily Telegraph, to Harold Lawton who was the last surviving allied POW captured on the Western Front.

He sadly passed away on Christmas Eve aged 106.

Rest in Peace Harold

Having also read the obit, I guess you could say he was lucky to survive to be able to spend 15 years there!

Interesting character, and not one who I've seen in any of the 'Old Soldier' programmes. Or have I just not been paying attention?

Sorry to read of his passing

Harold Lawton has given some interviews over the last years, two of these are in Richard van Emden's Book the Last Tommies and Max Arthur's The Last Post.

Sorry I am so late with this one but I have been computer free over christmas.

I was saddened to read of Harolds passing, what an interesting life he had lived.

For those who did not know him here is a photo taken by me in August.

RIP Harold

Guest Simon Bull

Given that he was a very literate chap who was published on numerous occasions in relation to his academic work, I wonder if he ever wrote anything about his Great War experiences?
