Chris Backhouse Posted 24 December , 2005 Share Posted 24 December , 2005 Perhaps some artillery expert can help? I am trying to find out something about the 219th Siege Batt. RGA in September and October 1917. I do know it formed part of the 87th Brigade, 2nd Army, but where did it fit in the Order of Battle: who controlled it? My orbats of the period mainly cover infantry but do show RFA units attached at Divisional level and Heavy Trench Mortars at Corps level but no mention of the Siege Batts. Any help greatly appreciated. After researching infantry battalions it strikes me that the artillery researcher is the poor relation. Thanks. Chris. KONDOA Posted 24 December , 2005 Share Posted 24 December , 2005 Chris, Siege batteries would be under Army control at this date but could be allocated to a Corp for certain periods. Corp war diaries may offer some clues. Roop
Chris Backhouse Posted 24 December , 2005 Author Share Posted 24 December , 2005 2nd reply. My first one didn't seem to take. Thanks Roop, I have checked on the internet at TNA and they have the War Diary for the 87th Brigade for the period in question. I don't know what Corps, if any, they werte attached to. It looks like another trip to Kew. I just hoped there was an easier way. Chris
