Guest Hill 60 Posted 24 August , 2003 Share Posted 24 August , 2003 If this has already been mentioned, I apologise for bringing it up again. This SITE has on-line copies of accounts by such people as Richthofen, Scheer, Smith-Dorrien, Rickenbacker & Jellicoe relating to WWI naval, land & air subjects. There aren't a lot of accounts, probably about 6 or 7, and Smith-Dorrien's account includes all of his 48 years service.

By J. F. B. Livesay This is a remarkable on-line document - period. I would recommend any student of the Canadian Corps download this pdf. reference document which can also be “key-word” searched for specific units and events. While there are some dated patriotic comments and hyperbole at times, this 1919 document also contains some detailed and important information on the Canadian Corps' military activities during the Last Hundred Days and its interactions with both British and French army units. Information on specific Battalions and heroic individuals is extensive. This book also provides some significant insight into the detailed battle movements of specific units with some remarkable coordination of attacking battalion movements with artillery which was far more sophisticated than just the “rolling barrage”. There is also [perhaps the first] an outline of modern tank tactics which may pre-date the written theories of both Liddell-Hart and Major Fuller. Highly recommended. The next edition of the List will include Military Museums and websites associated with Military Museums. Members are most welcome to recommend sites with at least a moderate section on the Great War. Borden Battery Posted 25 January , 2023 Share Posted 25 January , 2023 Thank you Kernel Panic - but the real credit goes to the hundreds of webmasters who have created this resource - I have only catalogued a small part of it. Forward to other members of the Great War Forum and elsewhere. Let me know if you have any recommendations for additions. These discussion forums tend to be specific, real-time junctures for sharing information; whereas, these websites have become the custodians of the material in a more catalogued format. Finally, drop a note to some of these webmasters to let them know others are reading and using their material. It is a rather unique and special digital community out there. Borden Battery Posted 4 February , 2023 Share Posted 4 February , 2023 I am still looking for member's recommendations of military museum websites from all participants in the Great War. Hope to add this new chapter in the April 2023 edition. Thanks. Borden Battery
Borden Battery Posted 17 February , 2023 Share Posted 17 February , 2023 Would one of the Great War Forum members like to work up an abstract for the National Archives with specific URL links to the various aspects of the Great War? I think we could allocate upwards of half a page to breakout the various elements of researching a Great War soldier on the List of Recommended Great War Websites. I have sent an inquiry to one of the senior researchers at National Archives but not reply as of yet. Borden Battery
