My mother-in-law recently gave me an old wwI German Waterbottle that she came across in her cellar. In side the water bottle was an old envelope dated 1976, written on the back of this envelope was:

Found on the field at Mons*

In the 1st World War

German Soldiers Water Bottle

1916 Sgt William Badcock

1st KSLI who was wounded there *

Regular Soldier from Boy Service

Later changed his name to "Addison" for family reasons.

Did this soldier exist?

I am no expert but, I believe that if this man exsisted he either found the water bottle at Mons in 1914

and was later wounded in 1916

or found the water bottle in 1916 and was also wounded but the location was wrong.

Hi dunmore44

There is also 7665 Sgt. Badcock, William, D.C.M. Landed in France/Flanders on 10/09/14 with 1/K.S.L.I. Also served under K.S.L.I. No. 44490. and trans. to Labour Corps with No. is 522102.

The 1/K.S.L.I. were not at Mons.

Just to add that I think the No. 44490 is a post war number but not 100% sure of that, I know for sure that five diget numbers starting 48*** are post war.
