Help with a German Soldier my GGrandfather.

Hello everyone...

I've posted a couple of time before regarding my GGrandfather and Uncles involved in the British Army during the war.....now I am taking on my German side of the family.

Which is a bit harder....but as I received so much help from you all before ......I thought I would see if you all ,were as knowledgeable about the german soldiers.......again Thanks in advance for any help you can give me .......

My GGRandfathers name was Heinrich Rebing...all I have is a Death Declaration sent to my GGRandmother in 1921.

It seems he went missing after a battle near a fort in the Chaume Forest on 24 September 1917.

My father tells me this was a hillside Command post within the battlefields around the city of Verdun eastern france.

The declaration has a lot of abrieviations before his name....3Komp.,Res.Inf.Regt.57. Ldstrm.H.Rebing

There may be another number after the 3 it's in a crease of a very faint copy (all I have) see attached,or it's a puntuation after the 3 I am not sure.

My german is not as good as it use to be but I get the jest of the document.Seems his body was never found.

Would there be a German Monument/Cemeterie in France that may comemorate him by name?

Can anyone tell me what all the abbriviations may be and what battle he may have been apart of and against whom on the british side?

Thanks for all your help and interest....

Please see my Public Album for a copy of the Death Declaration(Too Big to Post Here)

Some pictures of Chaume can be found here.

Presumably he was facing French troops rather than British.

Good luck with the search.
