Would anyone have any information regarding him aside from the CWGC, below? Posted 24 December , 2005 Share Posted 24 December , 2005 From the January 1908 Indian Army list Born 19/12/1879 1st comissioned 12/08/1899 into Leicester Regiment Joined Indian Army 23/02/1903 Lieutenant 24/06/1900 Joined 2nd Queens Own Rajput Light Infantry 23rd Feb 1902 In Jnuary 1908 he was listed as being on leave for one year, until 8th February 1908 on a medical certificate and outside of India. Hambo Posted 25 December , 2005 Share Posted 25 December , 2005 Captian Reinfred Tatton Arundell 2nd Queen Victoria's Own Rajput Light Infantry Wa killed in the Turkish attack on the Suez Canal on the 3rd February 1915 the younger son of the late Rev W.H.Arundell and Mrs Arundell of Cheriton, Fitzpaine, Devon and was born on the 19th of December 1879 Educated at the Rev Carr's School at Exmouth, at Marlborough College and at RMC Sandhurst. Gazetted into the Leicestershire Regiment in August 1899 and becoming Lieutenant in June 1900 He was transferred to the Indian Army in Februaury 1903 and served in the Tibet campaign of that year and tha of the following year, taking part in the march to Lhassa for which he received the medal. Owing to ill health, he retired on half pay in October 1908 and in March of the following year he was promoted Captain remaining on half pay till October 1909 when he rejoined the active list When leading his company gallantly against the Turks on the 3rd of February 1915, he was killed by machine gun fire. For his services he was mentioned as follows in the despatch of Maj Gen A.Wilson of the 11th of February 1915 "Captain R.T.Arundell led his double company with great gallantry in the counter-attack on February 3rd in which engagement he was killed" He was also mentioned in Maj Gen Wilson's list of names dated 1st of August 1915 Catain Arundell was a member of the Junior Army and Navy Club. He was a good all round sportsman, his recreations including hunting, fishing, shooting, football,polo, hockey, racquets and cricket. He lived an eventful life and died at the head of his men. I was able to coax the album onto my scanner enough to get this scan below. Nice nickname.
