SteveE Posted 16 December , 2005 Share Posted 16 December , 2005 Is there SKS out there with access to the records of officers who died in WW1 who could possibly do a search for the above named officer. I have his CWGC entry and MIC details but was wondering if there was any other details available out there. He died of wounds received on 4th January 1917. Thanks in advance for any help Steve

SteveE Posted 16 December , 2005 Author Share Posted 16 December , 2005 Steve & Rup Thanks for the information, any little snippet helps as he's proving quite a difficult character to pin down. There is an Officer's file for an E. Dutch in WO339 which I will need to check out next time I'm at the NA but I thought I'd see what info. could be found first. Steve, you are indeed the master and I bow to your ability to search the Gazette and the Times, I couldn't find him in either. How do you fancy trying to find his 2nd Lieutenant's commission in the Gazette Thanks again Steve

Stebie9173 Posted 16 December , 2005 Share Posted 16 December , 2005 Only just realised he was 25th Battalion. I came across another "Dutch" in East Africa in my searches. A brother perhaps? Didn't record who and what though! Steve.
SteveE Posted 17 December , 2005 Author Share Posted 17 December , 2005 No problemo.... I don't quite know how you do it, I've searched under every possible permutation imaginable for that information ...... and you find it within minutes . You are indeed the master of all searches. As a matter of interest what parameters returned that particular result? Thanks very much again. Steve
Stebie9173 Posted 18 December , 2005 Share Posted 18 December , 2005 Steve, Parameters were "James Dut*" with 8 hits. It was No. 8 of course, WOuldn't be No.1 would it. It was the last of my standard combinations and to be honest I don't know why "Ernest James Dutch" didn't pick it up as copy and paste produced the right spelling. Just the Gazettes wonderful idiosyncracies.... Steve.
SteveE Posted 18 December , 2005 Author Share Posted 18 December , 2005 Steve Parameters were "James Dut*" Ah! Now I didn't try that one but I did try "James Dutch", close but obviously not close enough for the Gazette to recognise. As you say one of the Gazettes wonderful idiosyncracies. Now off to try that parameter search on others I can't find................ Thanks again. Steve
