gnr.ktrha Posted 16 December , 2005 Share Posted 16 December , 2005 Hello, I am researching the career of the above named Officer, for a neighbour. I have found information on him in the Black Watch Officers Roll Vol 2, and also in the Edinburgh Uni Roll of honour. 2 Lt A D Kincaid was wounded and missing on the 22 March 1918. Does anyone have a copy of the war diary for this date. There is not much in the History of the Black Watch book [Vol 3]. Also, he is one of about 4 Officers, of the 8th Bn, who were admitted to hospital on the 11 Sept. 1917. the Bn was not in the line at this time, they were training. Any idea why they were admitted to hospital on this day, was it some sort of training accident ? Thanks for looking. Regards, Stewart
FredJCarss Posted 18 December , 2005 Share Posted 18 December , 2005 Hi Stewart I am afraid Kincaid is one of the many junior officers who were not that well documented. In my collection I have the condensed war diary and this has no mention of hospital commings and goings. Now 22.3.18 "Acting on orders received, a witdrawal was effected without loss by 5.00 to DESART WOOD. At 12.00 orders were received to withdraw on EQUANCOURT, as enemy advance on R. had turned our position. The withdrawal was completed by19.00. There were patrol engagements only." He is listed in the summing up of losses of the months fighting on the 28.3.18 along with some other officers as Wounded - 2/Lt Kincaid. Not much I am afraid. The full diary may have more info as I have found the two versions compliment each other as sometimes one is more detailed than the other, then vice versa. Kind regards Fred
gnr.ktrha Posted 18 December , 2005 Author Share Posted 18 December , 2005 Hello Fred, Thanks very much for the information. There is a bit more detail regarding his loss in his service history/papers. His father was trying to find out as much as possible regarding his loss and the battalion commander contacted him with a report made by one of his Sergeants. it just stated that the enemy was coming on in force and that 2 Lt Kincaid and his men were acting as a rear guards. They retired down a hillside, but when the Sergeant and men reached the bottom, the realised that thier officer was missing, they went back up and saw him lying wounded, some way off. They thought he was lying next to his Batman. That was the last seen of him. Thanks again, Stewart
