HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 15 December , 2005 Share Posted 15 December , 2005 (edited) Citations for WW1 MMs were not generally Published, only a promulgation{ie Listing of Names,Numbers,Ranks & Regiments}verifying the award officially.these can be found by searching the Gazettes Online {if you can work it} Forum Member Stebie{Steve Beeby} Has done a magnificent job in researching all MMs 1916~17{& is I believe doing the rest} so a PM to him should help you get the information you require} Their Online {National Archive} Medal Index cards for their MMs will also tell you the Gazette Editions they are listed in. swizz Posted 15 December , 2005 Share Posted 15 December , 2005 Yes I understood that anyone who is able to track down a citation for a MM is very lucky indeed! I was eventually able to find my grandfathers name in a London Gazette but it was through an indexed paper copy rather than the website (which I have yet to master!) Good luck with the search though - maybe you will be one of the lucky ones! Swizz

Peter Bennett Posted 15 December , 2005 Author Share Posted 15 December , 2005 Thanks everyone-I am further than when I first started. Sadly the old newspapers only record their deaths. Joe Breheney died from influenza the same week as his Father and Brother died from the same disease. He had been previously discharged having lost an arm. His obituary mentioned that he won the MM at Beaumont Hamel.
