J Banning Posted 15 December , 2005 Share Posted 15 December , 2005 How about Jack Sheldon's 'The German Army on the Somme 1914-1916'. I am yet to read it (was not in my local library so is on my Christmas list). I have heard very good things of it though and it should certainly be your first port of call. spike10764 Posted 15 December , 2005 Share Posted 15 December , 2005 --> QUOTE(Ralph B @ Dec 15 2005, 11:42 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How about Jack Sheldon's 'The German Army on the Somme 1914-1916'. This is an excellent book and should provide you with a German perspective of the Battle of The Somme with background from the early days of German occupation. Well worth getting your hands on. Halder Posted 16 December , 2005 Share Posted 16 December , 2005 It's not out yet, but in the spring of 2006, Christopher Duffy (Red Storm on the Reich fame) is producing a book from the German viewpoint which I think is called the German Army and the Battle of the Somme, or very similar. Holger Herwig's book on Germany in WW1 is excellent, although there's not masses on the Somme. Jack Sheldon's book is in a league of its own.
