SOMMESOLDIER Posted 14 December , 2005 Share Posted 14 December , 2005 Hi Peter, 20247 L/Cpl Edward Oldham 22nd Battalion [7th Pals] Killed in Action 11-1-17 He had been awarded the Military Medal. He was one of the original Pals and is recorded in Manchester City Battalions Book of Honour. He is listed as in A Company 1V Platoon. Cheers Tim. R. http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveVi...&selHonourType= No citations were publsihed for MMs. Most of these awards are a mystery as to when and how they were won. It is possible that they are mentioned in Regimental Histories, Local Papers and a general acknowledgement of the award in the unit war diary. The usual delay between winning the award and being published in the Gazette was often 3 months but could vary by a couple of months either way. (March-July 1916 seems a reasonable "window") The Military Medal only came into existence in March 1916 so some of the earlier issues of the Gazette were "playing catch-up".
