Remembered Today:

Heading to the 16th Lancers positions

Next month I, and my father, are going to head for France and Belgium to retrace my Great Grandfathers steps over the first month of the war (when he was wounded at the Aisne), from Jeumont to Ciry via Mons, Le Cateau etc. I have the locations/movements for the Regiment, and plenty of detail to go on, but am wondering if there are any particular memorials to the 16th in the area that anybody knows of. I know of one to 5th Lancers which I shall try to photograph for Ciaran Byrne and am visiting the graves of the Lancers who fell in that time - but is there any specific place I need to go apart from the general route?.

One thing you may want to look out for is late 1918 lancer casualties in the same vicinity as those for 1914. My grandfather's regiment's first and last casualties are very close together south of Mons.

No doubt a kind soul with SDGW will be able to identify the last casualties for you.
