Just finished reading this important memo. of Victorian and Edwardian life and serving as a TF officer in various RWF battalions in two theatres of war.

I immensely enjoyed it.

I have a question for erudite pals. Has anyone attempted to decode Pinto's Noms de Guerre for his various seniors, peer group and other ranks, please?

I only became aware of it a couple of weeks ago and find it enthralling: the man can really write lovely English.

Got it without trouble abebooks, also on bookfinder.com, first edit in vgc including dustjacket £4 plus p7p.

Hutchinson 1969, London.

A top class read, with the middle third all Great War. Pinto served with Sassoon in 25th RWF. Pinto wounded, gassed, wounded etc etc. Tremendous insights into the staff, junior officers, relations with native French and Belgians, relations with other ranks.

Really glad to have it.
