Moonraker Posted 13 December , 2005 Share Posted 13 December , 2005 Where in the UK was the Motor Transport headquarters of the Army Service Corps in 1915? The two major depots that come to mind are Bulford and Grove Park.

delta Posted 14 December , 2005 Share Posted 14 December , 2005 From what I can gather, the nearest thing to a HQ for ASC MT was the Inspectorate of MT based at Aldershot
Moonraker Posted 15 December , 2005 Author Share Posted 15 December , 2005 From what I can gather, the nearest thing to a HQ for ASC MT was the Inspectorate of MT based at Aldershot Thanks, Delta. A dealer is offering a decent postcard captioned thus and showing motor transport, and I would have been interested in buying it if it was likely that it depicted Bulford. Moonraker Posted 16 December , 2005 Author Share Posted 16 December , 2005 If you can post the picture, we may be ale to identify the location Here it is. The dealer has dated it as "1915" and it's for sale @ £25 from http://www.postcardworld.co.uk/ Presumably "C.P." is the publisher, if so I don't recognise it as one who bothered with Wiltshire. The background looks a bit rustic for Aldershot (and Bulford). Moonraker
delta Posted 16 December , 2005 Share Posted 16 December , 2005 Not sure why he has called it an HQ, from the relaxed dress it looks like a standard ASC MT unit, on standown to me, to me. It could be anywhere; unlikely to be Bulford as the ground is too flat - it could be taken off Queens' Avenue at Aldershot, there are trees surrounding the open areas to the west (now flanked by the dual carriage-way joining Farnborough to Farnham. Graham Stewart Posted 16 December , 2005 Share Posted 16 December , 2005 Moonraker, According to my list of "Stations of Units" for July 1913, the resident Coy,A.S.C.(M.T.) at the A.S.C.(M.T.) Depot, Aldershot was No.52 Coy,A.S.C.(M.T.). Obviously this may have changed by August 1914. Graham.
