Whilst searching for some other wargraves recently i came across a civilian headstone in a graveyard in Bangor N Ireland.

The headstone was a family one for the Barrett family.

What caught my eye was the inscription......

Part of it read.

CAPTAIN AND FLIGHT COMMANDER ERNEST WILLIAM BARRETT ROYAL FLYING CORPS KILLED IN ACTION ON THE YPRES SALIENT 29 MAY 1915 AGED 26 YEARS

His brother, a naval man ,is also named as KIA on the same headstone.

Anyone any information on Capt Barrett?

I have a photo. of the headstone for anyone interested.

Capt E W Barrett of No 29 Sqn RFC, was flying DH 2 5946 when he was killed in action on 29 May 1916. He had left Abeele aerodrome at 0745 on a routine patrol, and was in combat with two enemy aircraft when his aircraft was seen to nose dive and crash near Voormezeele. The aircraft crash site was later shelled.

Capt Barrett is buried at Lijssenthoek, Belgium.

I hope this helps you.
